UCSB’s Executive Vice Chancellor, Dr. David Marshall, presents to the UC Regents as part of the agenda item "The University’s Transcript Evaluation Service" (TES) given to the Academic and Student Affairs Committee of the UC Regents on Wednesday March 14, 2018. The presentation showcased TES and the partnership between UCSB and the Oxnard Union High School District (OUHSD). The Regents presentation also featured UC Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Michael Brown, Vice-Provost of Academic Affairs, Dr. Yvette Gullatt, and Maricruz Hernandez, Director of College and Career Readiness of the Oxnard Union High School District.
The Transcript Evaluation Service is a statewide initiative out of the University of California Office of the President. TES is a web-based tool that allows a school and/or district’s student transcripts to be evaluated to determine their progress toward becoming UC/CSU eligible. TES evaluates and provides each student with a personalized report, and equips counselors and administrators with reports and data tools, to track progress of students.

Over the past 10 years, UC Santa Barbara has had several Student Academic Preparation and Educational Partnership (SAPEP) programs in the Oxnard Union High School District: in particular, the Early Academic Outreach Program (EAOP) and the Mathematics Engineering Science Achievement (MESA) program. These programs provide resources to students who would be the first in their families to attend and graduate from college. Building upon the strength of this relationship, OUHSD and UC Santa Barbara’s Office of Education Partnerships made a collaborative decision to implement TES district-wide to ensure that all students are receiving those college and career readiness experiences. The Office of Education Partnerships and other outreach programs attempt to ensure that the University of California will be accessible to high school students throughout California. UC Santa Barbara is especially committed to providing services to those students in our geographical area who attend schools with historically low college-going rates. The Transcript Evaluation Service is central to these efforts to ensure that high school students will be UC-eligible since it provides students, parents, and schools with information about UC ‘a-g’ requirements that will allow them to improve course planning, student registration, and academic advising.
