The UCSB Edison STEM Research Scholarship aids talented undergraduate students to present already conducted research at a conference or participate in research under the direction of a UCSB faculty mentor/research affiliate in one of the following fields: Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Computer Science, Earth Science, Geography, Electrical Engineering, Environmental Studies, Applied Mathematics, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or Statistics & Data Science.

Within the application, you will need to specify if you are applying for a scholarship to present (already conducted) research at a conference or if you are seeking support to conduct research during the academic year or summer.

The available scholarships are the following:

  • Edison STEM Summer Research Scholarship, which supports students in an eight-week full-time intensive summer research program with a $6,175 scholarship.
    • Deadline: Friday, May 22nd, 2026 by 11:59 PM
  • Edison STEM Academic Year Research Scholarship, which is available during the academic school year to students who have conducted prior research and are looking to extend their research in an effort to present or publish their findings, with a $1,100 scholarship.
    • Winter Quarter Deadline: Friday, February 13th, 2026 by 11:59 PM
    • Spring Quarter Deadline: Friday, May 16th, 2026 by 11:59 PM
  • Edison STEM Research Conference Support Scholarship, which aids talented undergraduate students in presenting research already conducted at a local or national conference. Out-of-state scholarship (up to $1,000) or in-state scholarship ($300).
    • Deadline: Ongoing until September 18th OR fulfilled

Requirements:

  1. Full-time UCSB student pursuing a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Computer Science, Earth Science, Geography, Electrical Engineering, Environmental Studies, Applied Mathematics, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or Statistics & Data Science.
  2. Be a student from an economically, educationally, and/or geographically challenged school in Edison-specified fields (see previous requirement).
  3. Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.
  4. Be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or DREAM scholar (DACA recipient).
  5. Be enrolled in the UCSB MESA (Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement) University Program (MUP). If you are not currently enrolled, apply today at https://tinyurl.com/UCSB-MUP-Application.
  6. Participate in professional development sessions.
  7. Present your research at a research seminar (Summer/Fall options).
  8. Receive a letter of recommendation from the UCSB faculty member, post-doc, or UCSB-affiliated researcher with whom you are conducting research through a Google form provided by the UCSB OEP program coordinator.
