Regional Finals MESA DAY 2015

UCSB MESA will host student finalists from the Central California MESA region. MESA Schools Program finalist from UC Santa Cruz, CSU Fresno, and UC Santa Barbara will attend the 1-day event. Winners in the National Competition will move on the the California statewide finals.

EAOP’s traveling college fair provides students with an opportunity to learn about different colleges/universities and meet representatives that can assist you with your higher education goals.

Science and Technology MESA DAY 2015

UCSB MESA will host 500 pre-college students and their parents on campus and with the support of student organizations and alumni will provide hands-on STEM workshops and MESA competitions, campus tours, and college/career focused workshops.

Dos Pueblos HS/Goleta Valley JH fieldtrip to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library

Students will have the opportunity to tour the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, learn about key historical moments during his presidency, tour the Air Force One and much more!

Santa Barbara HS Pathways field trip to Cal Poly Pomona

Take advantage of learning about the California State University (CSU) system and visit one of their campuses.  Students will have the opportunity to tour Cal Poly Pomona, learn about their admission requirements and experience what undergrads eat at the dining commons. This visit will give students a first look at what attending Cal Poly Pomona is really like.

Viva el Arte de Santa Barbara - Entre Mujeres

Isla Vista Elementary Schoolwill be hosting Entre Muejeres an all-star, all-woman group playing Son Jarocho, the music of Veracruz that is a fusion of Indigenous, Spanish, and African elements. Son Jarocho is performed on traditional jaranas, harp, violin, and the tarima, a small wooden dance floor. See artists Martha Gonzalez of Quetzal, and Laura Rebolloso perform on Friday September 21 beginning at 7:00 p.m. This is a family friendly event free of charge.

Entre Mujeres is an extension of an informal network – Fandango sin Fronteras- which unites musicians across the U.S. Mexican border. This event is part of a series of events called Viva el Arte de Santa Barbara. Viva el Arte de Santa Barbara is founded in part by the city of Santa Barbara, in partnership with the Santa Barbara Arts Commission. Additional support is provided by the Guadalupe Arts & Education Center, Isla Vista School After School Grant, Marjorie Luke Theatre, UCSB’s Arts & Lectures and the Office of Education Partnerships.

UCSB - CNSI Cooke Bridges Summer Program at UCSB

The Cooke Bridgesprogram will be held July 29th through August 5th at the University of California, Santa Barbara. The new summer residential program for community college students is hosted by the Center for Science and Engineering Partnerships (CSEP)at the California Nanosystems Institute (CNSI).

CNSI is a collaborative effort established by the State of California, situated on the campuses of UC Santa Barbara and UC Los Angeles. It is an integrative venture that calls upon expertise from a very broad scope of disciplines, including biology, chemistry, physics, engineering, materials science, computation, and media arts.

The Cooke Bridges is a science-based intensive residential program that offers work experience in a dynamic research environment. Through participating in the Cooke Bridges summer residential program, community college students will gain valuable experience contributing to research in science, engineering, and mathematics disciplines. Participants reside on the UC Santa Barbara campus for a one week.

The Cooke Bridges program at UC Santa Barbara joins this summer program led by the Center for Science and Engineering Partnerships (CSEP)and UCSB MESA Programs.These STEM transfer student success programs are supported by the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation.

Summer Algebra Academy Celebration at La Cumbre Junior High School

La Cumbre Junior High School parents and students will celebrate UC Santa Barbara Summer Algebra Academy (SAA) participants who completed this UCSB MESA Program supported academic preparation program at La Cumbre Junior High School.

The event honors students' completion of this 4-week summer program designed to give participants a "leg up" in college track courses. Students will be recognized for active participation in the SAA Program with certificates and dinner will be served to guests from 6:00 -7:30 PM.

Start for the 2012 AISP Summer Residential Program at UCSB

The American Indian Scholars Program (AISP) Summer Residential Program is a summer residential program for Native high school students (including incoming ninth graders) who plan to go to college. Based on the UCSB campus, the AISP Summer Residential Program is a 5-day educational and cultural enrichment experience for students interested in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) designed to give students direct experience with college-life and an overview of the resources, staff and faculty present at a university. Cultural lessons will be facilitated by staff, students and local community leaders. Classes during the day will consist of marine science, math, and earth science. Participants will meet Native UCSB students and get to know Native students from the local area and from communities outside this county.

Enrollment has reached maximum occupancy. We welcome inquiries about next summer (2013).

Santa Barbara High School Pathways Program End of the Year Dinner

Gathering in the SBHS cafeteria, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Pathways Program participants at Santa Barbara High School (SBHS) will celebrate along with their friends, families, UCSB staff, SBHS educators and administrators.

A short dinner program is planned to highlight these students' progress over the past academic year and is an opportunity for UCSB mentors to say "good bye" to the Pathways students, as some will be graduating this year.

Pathways Program's graduating seniors and other program participants at Dos Pueblos High School (DPHS) will be celebrated by UCSB staff in an evening of festivities - 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Pathways Program participants, their parents and DPHS staff and educators are invited to join UCSB mentors and staff in honoring these students’ scholarly and creative accomplishments. The event is intended for DPHS students to enjoy a memorable dinner with friends and family and to promote a continued focus on academic success. Hawaiian Luau dinner theme.

UC Santa Barbara SKILLS Day

School Kids Investigating Language and Society (SKILLS), began as a UC Santa Barbara supported "Faculty Outreach Grant Program", and has evolved into an established program delivered as part of the UCSB Upward Bound Program, and as an afterschool/elective course in two local high schools. Professor of Linguistics, Dr. Mary Bucholtz is hosting a full day event at UC Santa Barbara on May 18th with help from OEP staff, linguistics graduate students and other UC Santa Barbara staff.

At the upcoming UCSB SKILLS Day, Upward Bound Program participants, Santa Barbara High School students and Carpinteria High School students will showcase recent linguistics research. Students will share their hands-on learning in cultural linguistics and original findings through public presentations at this event . The linguistics lessons students have absorbed are deeply personal, coming directly from their educational experience, their families and our communities.

The UCSB SKILLS DAY event is open to UCSB staff, faculty, friends and families of SKILLS participants.

MESA WEC

For the 3rd consecutive year, The UCSB Mathematics Engineering and Science Achievement (MESA) will host the statewide MESA Wind Energy Challenge (WEC) to showcase student learning and innovations related to using wind power technologies for energy generation.

Winners of the MESA WEC statewide competition will compete at the WEC national competition in Seattle, Washington, June 21-24, 2012.
